Artist statement
I like photography’s ability to give the viewer an experience – a moment where the image opens for a deeper understanding or an emotional response. We can look at a photograph and never think of it again, we can also look at a photograph for a second and remember it for years. There are several factors needed to be present to achieve those moments and the intriguing aspect for me is that most times we do not control or understand those factors. I find this interesting, and I enjoy the fact that there is no exact recipe but sometimes a photograph gives the viewer a deeper insight, a feeling, or a sense of resonance. Resonance, when looking at photography or other art, may be understood as a quality that evokes awareness of something personally meaningful and valuable.
In my work the creative process has different stages. First the caption, often when passing something that triggers my interest, then later, on a computer, I absorb the caption and create an image that I can feel or relate to, more deeply.
